Marine Corps League 2010 National Convention
Granger, IA - August 2010 -Barr-Nunn Transportation, a transportation industry leader, is proud to be aiding the United States Marine Corps at the forthcoming Corps League National Convention. The Marine Corps League Convention is the 87th of its kind and will be taking place throughout the week of August 8th at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, NC. Barr-Nunn Drivers Safely Go Beyond the Million Mile Mark
Granger, IA - June 24, 2010 - Barr-Nunn Transportation announced today that
four of its experienced drivers have safely driven more than one million miles for the company, with driver Michael "Winn" Holt reaching the two million mile mark last month. Drivers James Settle, Curtis Reynolds and Harry Campbell all reached the 1.5 million mile mark with the carrier.
Holt was extremely excited about reaching the two million mile mark after 17 years with the company. "I was so happy about it, I knew I was getting close."
"It is quite an accomplishment for a driver to reach that many miles safely and without an accident," says Campbell. "Barr-Nunn is a really good company, they really try to keep us loaded and we're with them for so long that they just keep us running because they know we will get the job done for them."
A Barr-Nunn driver for the last 10 years, Reynolds says that he feels lucky that he reached the milestone without an incident. "I think there's is a great degree of luck involved in this because there seems to be plenty of opportunities where it could have all gone South," he adds. He says the achievement was a real celebration for him.
"I feel great about this. It's something that I really set out to do and didn't think I ever would get it done," says driver James Settle. "Safety should be an aspect more drivers concentrate on. Barr-Nunn is great company to work for, I've worked here almost 17 years and I believe by staying around for this long it proves that there is something here."

Barr-Nunn is Celebrating its Drivers by Increasing Pay/Bonuses
Granger, IA (June 18, 2010)- Barr-Nunn Transportation, Inc. truly knows how to appreciate its drivers and the long-term careers they have established with the company. That's why Barr-Nunn is pleased to announce a benefit change for its current company drivers and for all new company drivers. This raise is effective with all loads that complete after July 1, 2010 forward; Barr-Nunn will now contribute $0.02 per practical mile to a driver's 401K instead of $0.01 per practical mile currently. Drivers do not have to contribute anything themselves to the plan to be eligible for the $0.02 per mile company contribution which starts day one of employment.
The carrier has also made a change back to its old driver referral program. For all drivers referred by a Barr-Nunn Driver or Owner Operator the following program will be in effect until 8/27/10. For referrals that are hired, drivers will earn $500 up front, $0.02 per mile for that driver's miles (paid weekly) and an additional $500 after the new driver celebrates 4 months with Barr-Nunn.
With an additional promotion on top of this, Barr-Nunn drivers and Owner Operators can earn up to $2,250 per driver referral.

Starting a Trucking Career & Truck Driver Training Programs
Many private and public vocational-technical schools offer cdl tractor-trailer / truck driver training programs. Students truck drivers will learn to maneuver large vehicles on busy streets and in highway traffic. They will also learn to inspect trucks and balance freight for compliance with local, Federal and State, regulations. Persons interested in attending a truck driving school should check with local trucking companies to make sure that the school's training is acceptable to their perspective state and policies.
CDL Truck Driver Training
For most truck drivers taking a cdl truck driver-training course is an excellent way of preparing for a truck driving job and for anyone trying to obtain a commercial driver's license. Some high school and college courses offer cdl truck driver training. Automotive mechanics would be very helpful in the trucking business. Trucking companies that offer training to new truck drivers is usually informal, and may only consist of 1-2 days of instruction from an experienced driver / trainer, sometimes with minimal pay or even the on new drivers own time. New drivers may also ride with and observe experienced truck drivers / trainers before they are allowed to make their own runs. Some trucking companies give 3 to 5 days of classroom instruction covering trucking basics, like loading and operating a dry van or flatbed trailer, company procedures, and or the preparation of delivery forms and company orders. Some Trucking companies teach their drivers truck sales. Drivers also may receive training on the various types of products they haul, so that they will be effective workers.
New Truck Drivers
Most people have had other jobs and enter their truck driving professions directly out of trucking school; most truck drivers previously had jobs in other industries. Drivers that have experience in the Armed Forces can be a plus. In most cases, a person may also starting as a truck driver's helper, driving part of the day and helping to load and unload freight is a plus. Most helpers will receive promotion when driving vacancies occur or other drivers move up or retire. New drivers sometimes start on smaller trucks like straight or panel trucks. Truck Driving Jobs
Although most new cdl truck drivers are assigned immediately to regular cdl truck driving jobs, some start as team student drivers, filling in for regular drivers who are on vacation or substituting for others. Most new drivers receive a regular route or assignment when an opening occurs.
